We admire it every day on the sports channels. That perfect golf swing that is really a work of art. But is a golfer’s body just a time bomb ticking on it’s way to acute injury? Researches are in agreement that most golf injuries occur in the low back.
Even professional golfers can fall victim to injuries cause by overuse or continuous repetitive movement. However the “weekend warrior” golfer can do a lot of damage from poor swing techniques and lack of mobility. They sit hours on end at their job with hips flexed and consequently carry that posture to their golf posture. Day by day their hip flexors have tightened and shortened to cause weakness in the glute-max, a crucial hip stabilizer needed for proper golf swing.
A therapeutic massage can restore healthy length to the hypertonically shortened hip flexors… followed by hands-on fast-paced spindle-stim techiques to wake up those weak glutes can help to correct the “S-posture” so commonly seen in poor golf posture.
The bottom line is that the greater control the golfer has over a balanced neuromyofascial system… the better and more controlled the golf swing and the game of golf and the less likely the game will result in low back pain.
The Massage Therapist Certification Workshop in Asheville, NC coming up March 4-6 will have a session focused on low back and spindle stim techniques to correct these common golf injuries.
