Indiana State University is proud to name the recipients of the 2025 Erik Dalton Scholarship: Carter Campbell and Emilen Stierwalt, two exemplary students advancing the field of Myoskeletal Alignment Techniques (MAT) through the only Massage Therapy Minor offered by a major U.S. university.
The Erik Dalton Scholarship, established in 2019 by the late founder of Myoskeletal Alignment Techniques, supports aspiring professionals who integrate massage therapy with occupational, physical, and athletic therapy. Sadly, Dr. Erik Dalton passed away earlier this year, but his legacy endures through this endowment. His vision has helped elevate ISU’s massage program to national prominence and sparked conversations around expanding it into a master’s degree.

Scholarship recipient Carter Campbell, majoring in Exercise Science, noted, “Massage therapy has been incredibly rewarding and has helped me develop valuable skills. This program has deepened my understanding of the body and provided hands-on experience, allowing me to design more effective training programs.”
“I plan to become an occupational therapist and work in pediatrics at a hospital or clinic,” added scholarship recipient Emilen Stierwalt. “The skills I have learned from this course will set me apart from others and I’ll be able to use these valuable techniques on the kids I’ll be working with.”
Charles Peebles, Massage Therapy Program Coordinator in the Department of Applied Medicine and Rehabilitation at Indiana State, highlighted the value of the partnership with Dalton: “Instead of the spa model, the program at Indiana State was going to be focused on functional movement – posture, pain, and performance – moving you to a more efficient way of being alive. I knew that we had to use Myoskeletal Alignment Techniques as the foundation of this program.”
Thanks to the ongoing support from Erik Dalton’s endowment, Indiana State University continues to break ground in therapeutic sciences, ensuring rigorous, science-based training in massage therapy for future healthcare leaders.
