Four Students Selected for Myoskeletal Massage Scholarship

This year, four students have been selected to receive the Erik Dalton Myoskeletal Massage Therapy Endowed Scholarship at Indiana State University.

Erik Dalton partnered with Indiana State University in 2012 to create the “Advanced Myoskeletal Massage Therapy” (AMMT) program, the only minor degree in massage therapy offered by a major United States university.

To provide assistance to students and encourage other universities to follow suit, Erik Dalton has established an endowed scholarship fund. The recipients of the 2023 scholarships are Alexis Fears, Giovonni Garrett,  Kathryn Tritle, and Nick Anzelone.

“I was impressed with Indiana State University being forward thinking in taking on a program like massage. Year after year it became more popular. I wanted to encourage other institutions in higher education to take a chance on doing this, so I thought ongoing scholarships would be a great starting point,” says Dalton.

Students from this program commonly enter into grad school programs in athletic training, physical therapy, occupational therapy, physician assistant and osteopathic medicine. The Advanced Myoskeletal Massage Therapy program gives them a solid foundation in massage and manual medicine.

Lets Hear from Our 2023 Scholarship Recipients...

Alexis Fears  is majoring in Applied Medicine with Pre-PA (Physician Assistant) along with a minor in massage therapy at Indiana State University. She is on track to attend a graduate PA program and then pursue a career as a PA.

First, I would like to say how grateful I am to receive this scholarship and for your huge generosity. I have really enjoyed the massage therapy program at ISU. In the short term, I would like to take my mblex at the end of this semester and then work at a place like Massage Envy throughout the summer. Following graduation next spring, I plan on attending a graduate PA program and then pursuing a career as a PA.

Thank you Erik Dalton for your generosity in providing this scholarship. I am grateful for all of your support in our program!

Alexis Fears

Giovonni Garrett senior at ISU, majoring in Applied Medicine and Rehabilitation.  She plans to persue her masters to become a licensed Athletic Trainer.

I am a current senior at ISU, majoring in Applied Medicine and Rehabilitation. I have plans to continue my education and persue my masters to become a licensed Athletic Trainer. Being a part of the AMMT minor at ISU has further expanded my knowledge of the human body. I learned how to manipulate and correct muscles to better help my patients. This class was the most fun and enthusiastic class I have ever been in. Thank You Erik Dalton for helping provide this opportunity for me and my University!

Giovonni Garrett

Kathryn Tritle is an Applied Medicine major with a focus on pursuing studies in the Pre-Physician Assistant program.

I am incredibly grateful to be a recipient of this scholarship.  The skills I have learned in the Advanced Myoskeletal Massage Therapy program have been invaluable. My favorite part of the program so far has been the hands-on practice of myoskeletal alignment techniques. Being able to work on a real body has allowed me to put textbook learning into practice and develop an understanding of the body and muscles on a deeper level. I have become more comfortable and confident after practicing these hands-on techniques which I know will be an asset in my future education in grad school and beyond. Thank you again Erik Dalton for all the support you give to the students in the massage therapy program at ISU. It truly means so much!

Kathryn Tritle

Nick Anzelone is an Applied Medicine major with a minor in Spanish.  He has plans to continue studies in Physical Therapy and DPT school.

I’m Nick Anzelone and I am in my first semester of the ISU Massage Therapy Program. I am an Applied Medicine major with a minor in Spanish.

The skills I am learning from the massage therapy program at ISU have been valuable tools that I have already started to use in my practice as a CPT and a stretch provider.  I plan on pursuing studies in Physical Therapy and have applied to start DPT school next year.

Learning from Erik Dalton has been a great privilege. I am grateful to have MAT as a resource to support me in my career moving forward. Thank you again!
